Dry Skin Acne Treatments

Dealing with dry facial skin and acne can be a pain.  Dry skin acne can be uncomfortable and your skill feels tight, especially after showering.  An acne breakout is the last thing you need.

Most people think only people with oily skin are vulnerable to acne breakouts but this simply isn’t true.

What causes dry skin acne?

Dry skin acne is caused when the natural moisture content of the skin becomes very low or lost.

  • Wind
  • Extreme cold and hot weather
  • Swimming
  • Showering- frequent showering and bathing in hot water strips the skin of natural oils.
  • Harsh soaps and detergents – avoid antibacterial soaps and watch out of drying shampoos.
  • Central Heat and Air
  • Wood stoves

All these things may make dry skin even drier, causing acne pimples to multiply. This dry skin acne can become even worse when common acne products, acne creams, and acne lotions are used. These acne treatments typically contain Benzoyl Peroxide, the most widely over the counter acne treatment sold. Using Benzoyl Peroxide on dry skin acne is like feeding the problem since Benzoyl Peroxide works by drying out acne.

How Do You Treat Dry Skin Acne?

Drink plenty of water and avoid alcohol. Dry skin acne should be treated by washing your face twice a day with a gentle, nondrying wash. A cream moisturizer containing glycerin, aloe vera, mineral oils or a moisturizer that is specially made for dry skin relief should be applied liberally every time your faced is washed. Moisturizer should be applied throughout the day whenever your skin starts feeling dried out or tight.

Mary Kay has an excellent skin care line formulated specially for dry skin. Mary Kay Intensive Moisturizing Cream for Dry Skin will leave your skin hydrated for up to 10 hours

How to Cure Your Acne Overnight July 11, 2009 at 6:12 am

If you need something more mild to cure your acne breakouts, you can also try using a medicated face wash. These products contain lower concentrations of benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid, and are not as harsh on your skin, as they are meant to be washed away after thirty seconds to a minute of use. As such, they are not necessarily as effective as creams and ointments, but because many blemishes and breakouts can be attributed to oily skin, using a medicated face wash is an excellent way to introduce your skin to acne treatment ingredients. The cleaner your face is, the more regulated the oil production will be – and for many people, cleaner skin can lead to clearer skin in the long run.

Kim Hartley Leading skin care specialist Everything you need to know about your skin and hair says… Great tips! It’s important to use a non-soapy cleanser when washing your face. Also I found that if you leave your skin slightly moist, then apply your moisturizer, that works really well. Thanks!
