What causes acne? At one time or another, we have all had acne blemishes. Acne is a skin condition where the skin pores become clogged and irritated with dirt and oil. This usually results in small little infected red pumps or white heads on your face. If you are one of the lucky ones, you’ll get big huge red pumps. These large acne blemishes typically show up in the most embarrassing, obvious parts of your face. There’s nothing quite like sprouting a huge acne blemish in the tip of your nose or in the center of your forehead. Sometimes the acne blemish is so large it’ll feel like a horn growing out of your head. Really nice huh? Don’t worry, we’ve all been there before.
So what exactly causes acne breakouts?
- Irritation – Harsh soaps, touching your face roughly, with dirty hands, rubbing your face, irritating clothing, and hair on your face can all cause acne.
- Stress – Stress triggers acne! Take up yoga, go for a walk, or pet your dog. Do something to relieve your stress levels.
- Family Genes – What is the family connection to acne? Well, it’s pretty simple, look at your mom and dad, look at their siblings too. Do they have beautiful skin or is their skin full of craters? There definitely is a family connection to acne but don’t lose hope if both your parents have acne or acne scars, you can help yourself out with acne treatments and acne home remedies that will help with acne prevention.
- Weather – Extremely cold weather can dry out out your face and cause acne blemishes. Hot weather, wind, and humidity also can cause breakouts.
- Makeup – Some makeup and skin care systems can cause breakouts. Pay close attention when switching makeup brands or skin care systems, if you suddenly notice your acne is out of control, then maybe it’s time to try a new makeup?
- Diet - High sugar, fried, fatty, and processed foods should be avoided. There are mixed results in the scientific community as to weather or not diet plays a strong roll in causing acne. Play it save, none of these types of foods are good for your body or your waistline so just avoid them and see if your facial acne improves.
- Hormones – Hormones cause an increase in oil production which can lead to acne blemishes.
- Medication – Some prescriptions can make acne blemishes seem to multiply over night. Birth control pills can also cause blemishes to show up. There are some newer birth control pills on the market now that are supposed to help clear facial acne.
